We are delighted to be joining Ardingly Choral Society for a performance of J.S. Bach's St Matthew Passion on April 14th.
Bach’s St Matthew Passion remains the most monumental of all choral works. It unfolds the drama of Christ’s Passion in an ever moving number of choral and narrative solos which reveal the real nature of the betrayal and suffering of Jesus and the final redemptive power of his sacrifice, all imbued with the wonderful mastery of Bach’s creative power.
New Sussex Singers are joining Ardingly Choral Society to perform this great work on Sunday 14th April in the magnificent ambiance of Ardingly College Chapel, with the Linden Baroque Orchestra which specialises in the music of this period. The conducting will be shared between Robert Hammersley of ACS and Sebastian Charlesworth of New Sussex Singers. This combination of young and older performers is a great feature of this performance as the young soloists are all coming to the peak of their careers: Evangelist Richard Robbins, soprano Olivia Bell,
alto Lauren Easton, tenor Edward Woodhouse, bass Matthew Duncan while Christus is sung by
Stephen Charlesworth, father of Sebastian.
The concert starts at 6.30 as the performance will take two and a half hours and you are advised to bring a cushion! The Mayor of Haywards Heath will be attending and there will be a voluntary retiring collection for her chosen charity, Time4Children. Tickets £20 are available online from Ticketsales Ardingly Choral Society and with cash on the door.
